I feel like a ball of nervous energy pinned up in a tight space waiting to break free and scream. I thought that writing my book was challenging, but I was wrong. Have you ever totally felt one way until you reach a goal only to find out that was just a small piece of the puzzle? My book is off to the printers and now I wait. Sure, I have a million and five things that need to be done, but it’s hard to get them done when you are stuck in the land of nerves, excitement, and aww.

Today I feel totally AMAZING. It has been a dream of mine to publish one of my books and now I can say I DID IT! The process was long, challenging, and at times I thought I would never make it. I can tell you this journey has been a huge roller coaster chugging up the track. With each and every pull of the car closer to the top, your energy changes. You go through so many different emotions. I feel like I am the star in the movie “Inside Out”. Each time the car forges ahead I felt different. Sometimes all the emotions came on at the same time. (My husband and kids ran on those days.) The ride doesn’t stop when you get to the top of the track. No, you get to sit at the top for a few brief seconds before you plummet to your death. Oh, wait not death, well it feels like that when you realize, now your book, your baby is going to be in the hands of others to read.

At that very moment just before the car screeches forward and you put your hands up to enjoy the ride there is that fear. WHAT HAPPENS IF NO ONE LIKES IT! Then the car crests over the hill and you are zipping and zooming down the track faster than you thought you could go. The fear is still in the back of my head, but right now the ride is just too exciting to stop and think of that. So today I feel AMAZING. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but hey that’s tomorrow.

LEGACY Of Logan & Lilly

It is hard to believe that the Adventures of Logan and Lilly series will be coming out this October. The road to this story has been a long road. I cant wait to see what the illustrator has in mind for the characters. Many of you don’t know the book is about our son Logan and his real-life doll Lilly. Since he was a little guy, he has had Lilly, and the two of them do just about everything together. We have pictures of them going to the store, playing in mud puddles, and simply in his room with only his imagination. It is fantastic to see him be so attached to a doll and not fear what others will think. I know he is only five now, and that might change in the future, but if we continue to teach him that it is okay, then when the day comes when someone says something, he will hold his own. Having a doll, being a boy does not make you weak, in my opinion. I know others will not share my views; this doll represents a bonded friendship that continues to withstand time. Someday, I know I will pull Lilly out and pass her on to one of his children, but the fact that they have their book means much more. It means that the legacy of Logan and Lilly will live on forever.

Books Vs. Screens

Every time a child opens a book, it is a chance for them to go on a brand new ADVENTURE! Books are so important for a child’s development. It not only allows them to escape to mystical places, meet new people, but it also teaches them about life. Many authors will write about what is going on currently in the world or a particular topic. For example, “The Adventures of Logan & Lilly” is about a seven-year-old boy named Logan and his doll Lilly. With books, a child can push past stereotypes and focus on what makes them smile. Books offer children the advantages to escape and allows them the freedom to express who they are.

Studies are now finding more benefits to children reading vs. having screen time. In one study done by the “Reading & Literacy Discovery Center of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital,” scientists discover what the brain looks like when children read vs. playing on tablets or tv. Scientists have proven with a scan that the child who reads shows growth “in organized white matter in the language and literacy.” This brain area will help a child when they become school age and aid in supporting their learning.

With this new development, I will challenge my children to put the screens down and grab a book. How about you?

I love this blog post by, Erica of What We Do All Day. She shares some great books that can help parents to learn to unplug their children and get them interested in reading. It is a great read.
